A Tazer has been used by police who responded to a report of a woman being stabbed at a house in Lisburn in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Specialist firearms officers entered the kitchen of the property at Woodland Avenue, Lambeg, around 2am where a man carrying two knives was struggling with a woman.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the Tazer was discharged “in order to prevent harm to the male himself or anyone else”.

The man, aged 21, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

The spokeswoman said: “A 19-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment for stab wounds to her chest. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

“Two men, aged 24 and 46, and a 48-year-old woman were also treated for injuries sustained as a result of this incident and later released from hospital.”

The Police Ombudsman has launched an investigation into the incident.
