Security alert at NI primary school ends as PSNI declare incident a hoax

A security alert that forced the closure of a primary school on Friday morning has been declared a hoax by the PSNI.

Finaghy Primary School closed early on Friday morning after an individual contacted the charity Crimestoppers and said a device had been left within “the vicinity” of the school.

Staff and parents were informed that the school would be closed for the entire day as a result.

PSNI Superintendent Gillian Kearney condemned whoever was responsible for the incident.

“Police, along with Ammunition Technical Officers, attended Finaghy Primary School this morning, following a report that a device had been left in the area of the school.

“This incident has been declared a hoax.

“An investigation is ongoing and we are following lines of enquiry.

“The individual, or individuals responsible for this incident will have caused great upset and distress to the school and community.

“Young schoolchildren and their parents have already been affected by disruption over the last year and this is the last thing they, the teachers and staff needed to contend with.”

NI school forced to close after anonymous individual claims there is a ‘device in the vicinity of the school’

A school in Northern Ireland has had to close after an anonymous individual telephoned Crimestoppers to say there was a "device inn the vicinity of the school".

Staff and pupils at Finaghy Primary School were notified about the closure early on Friday morning.

Belfast City Alliance Party Councillor, Kate Nicholl, said: “I am so angry there has been a second bomb hoax at Finaghy Primary School this year.

“After everything these kids have been through already this year, to create this level of fear & disruption is sickening.

“Thinking of the families & children and staff and will be following up with the PSNI,” wrote Colr. Nicholl on social media.
