A man has been arrested after an armed robbery at a shop in Newtownabbey on Tuesday night.

Shortly after 8.30pm, a man armed with a knife threatened a member of staff at the Abbey Trading Centre, forcing him to open the shop’s safe, before making off with cash.

A 25-year-old man was arrested a short distance away and a sum of money was recovered.

Detective Sergeant John McKendry has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch with detectives in Newtownabbey CID on the non-emergency number 101.
