A man who was due to appear in court on Wednesday to face sex offence charges has died suddenly.

The body of Martin John Hughes, from Annahugh Park in Ballyhegan, Co Armagh, was discovered on Sunday.

Police said the death was not believed to be suspicious.

Mr Hughes (65) had been charged with 14 offences, five of them against children, spanning 1983-1988.

A coroner’s certificate was presented to Newry Crown Court on Wednesday morning, where the case was up for mention. The court ordered that the file be closed unless otherwise directed.
