Man released on bail after stabbing in city

A man has been stabbed a number of times in the Short Strand area of east Belfast.

The incident occurred at Madrid Street around 3.35pm yesterday and the victim was taken to hospital.

The stabbing took place not far from where a man was attacked in similar fashion shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

In the first incident, the victim received puncture wounds to his neck and was treated in hospital for injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

Tuesday’s assault occurred in the Mountpottinger Road area of the city.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in relation to the Mountpottinger Road incident but later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Alliance councillor Maire Hendron has condemned those responsible for both stabbings and said her thoughts are with the victims.

She added: “Knives have no place on our streets. Those responsible...have no regards for the lives of others.

“If anybody has any information about these attacks then I would urge them to contact the police.”
