A man in his thirties has been shot in both legs in a paramilitary-style shooting in the New Lodge area of north Belfast.

The attack took place at Carlisle Parade and was reported to police at about 7.40pm on Tuesday.

Police said he is being treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The PSNI appealed for anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact them.

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly said;

“This shooting is wrong and has to be condemned.

“This is yet another attempt to intimidate the local community but those responsible represent no one but themselves.

“They have no place in our society and no support and need to stop these actions immediately.

“I would urge anyone with information about this attack to bring it forward to the PSNI.”
