Masked and armed burglars hospitalise householder

A masked gang armed with a hammer and knife injured a man after breaking into this Newtownabbey home, police have reported.

Detectives are appealing for information following the aggravated burglary in Rathmore Drive on Sunday night.

Shortly after 9.30pm police received a report that four masked men had forced their way into the house and assaulted the householder. Two of them were armed – one with a hammer and the other with a knife.

The assailants also damaged a number of household items and a car which had been parked at the front of the house.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which police said are not believed to be life threatening.
