Three masked and armed men assaulted two householders during an aggravated burglary in the Elm street area of Belfast last night.

Police are appealing for information after the 8.30pm incident when “three masked men forced their way into a dwelling and assaulted the two male occupants, after asking them for money”.

It is understood the men were struck on the legs and back by baseball bats during the assault although “neither man required hospital treatment for their injuries”.

“It is also alleged that one of the assailants had what is believed to be a gun,” added the PSNI spokesman.

Anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information about the incident to contact Detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
