NI school evacuated amid ongoing security alert

Police are currently at the scene of a security alert outside a school in north Belfast.

The alert has been called after the report of a suspicious object in the Brookfield Street area this afternoon.

A PSNI spokesman said a nearby school has been evacuated.

Holy Cross Boys School have confirmed on Twitter they had to evacuate their premises.

“The school had to be evacuated today because a suspicious object was found on the school grounds,” said their message.

“We were advised by the police to leave the building straight away.

“We will keep you updated when we receive any further information.”
