Two men were remanded into custody at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Saturday charged with having an Uzi sub-machine gun, a shotgun and numerous drug offences.
Thirty-two-year-old Philip Hugh Mitchell and Nicholas Mackle, 56, were jointly charged with possession of an Uzi sub-machine gun, a double-barrelled shotgun and a hand gun as well as having of ammunition in suspicious circumstances on April 1.
Mitchell, who faces a total of 15 charges and is from Tindall Cottages in Templepatrick, was also charged with growing cannabis at a house on Midland Crescent in Belfast and with interfering with the electricity meter at his house.
Mackle, from Parkmount Street in Belfast, was charged with a total of 13 similar offences.
A defence solicitor for the pair said both men strenuously deny their involvement in the alleged offences and a bail application would be made later.
They were remanded into custody to appear on Friday, April 10 by video link.
