Police are appealing for information after the discovery of a pipe bomb at Hollybrook Crescent in Newtownabbey on Monday.

Detective Inspector Millar said: “This viable device was left outside a house in a residential area where, had it exploded, it could have killed or injured anyone in the vicinity.

“This completely reckless act not only endangered local residents but also caused disruption to families who had to be moved from their homes for a number of hours.”

He is asking for witnesses who saw anyone suspicious in the area on Saturday or Sunday to come forward.

SDLP councillor Noreen McClelland said: “We have all moved on and refuse to let these people continually try to drag us back to the past.”
