Police officer injured during dissident protest at Maghaberry Prison

Four men were arrested following disturbances at a republican demonstration outside Maghaberry Prison on Saturday.

One police officer was injured during the disturbances.

The men, who were all aged in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of a number of public order offences.

Tonight they are in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.

The demonstration took place in support of dissident republicans in the prison refusing meals.

The prisoners are protesting over one prisoner, Dr Issam Bassalat, being held in a Covid-19 isolation area in a separate part of the jail.
