PSNI arrest 45-year-old man in dissident republican operation

Police investigating violent dissident republican activity in the Newry area have arrested a 45-year-old man after carrying out a search.

The PSNI said that detectives from Ardmore CID supported by the Newry Neighbourhood Policing Team who were investigating violent dissident republican activity conducted a search of a property in the Derrybeg area of Newry this morning.

As part of the operation they have arrested a 45-year-old mane who has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning, police said.

Inspector Adam Corner from the Newry Neighbourhood Policing team said: “Police are committed to tackling all forms of criminality and issues of serious crime in our community. I would encourage anyone with information that could assist in our efforts to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, or submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.

He added that information can also be passed to police anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/
