PSNI uncover £10k drug haul after routine stop

The PSNI has announced its officers seized an estimnated £10,000-worth of herbal cannabis after stopping a vehicle during what it called a “routine drink driving operation”.

It happened on the Mullenan Road, which stands on the opposide side of the Foyle to Newbuildings in Co Londonderry – very close to the border with the Republic – at just after 8pm on Thursday night.

Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said in a statement: “The 45 year old man was breathalysed at the side of the road. After his arrest on suspicion of drink driving, officers searched his vehicle and recovered an estimated £10,000 worth of cannabis.

“The man was further arrested for possession of class B drugs, possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and being concerned in the supply of a class B drug.

“The man is in police custody at present.”

Chief Inspector Hutton concluded: “In working to keep our roads safe last night, I am happy to say that we have also removed a substantial amount of illegal drugs from our community.”
