The owner of a Londonderry shop has described the damage caused when it was repeatedly ram-raided early on Thursday as “heart-wrenching”.

Pat O’Reilly said thousands of pounds of damage had been caused and a till with a £200 float stolen at Rosskeen Stores in Hazelbank during the raid in the early hours.

Police said the black Citroen C1 car involved was stolen in the Waterside before the raid.

Mr O’Reilly only took over the convenience shop last year and said he spent a lot of money refurbishing it.

He said: “The wee car hit the shutters four times.”

Two hooded youths were witnessed at the scene. Detectives are appealing for information.
