Reports that a north Antrim man who had been in a coma has now left hospital in Australia is said to have reassured residents of his hometown.

Patrick Lyttle had been hospitalised following an incident with his brother Barry during a trip to Sydney on January 3.

But yesterday a picture began circulating in the media showing the two brothers smiling and apparently leaving the hospital.

In the image, posted online, Patrick is seen standing upright with bandages on his head, with father Oliver also pictured nearby.

Independent Ballycastle councillor Padraig McShane said on Wednesday: “Everybody in Ballycastle was relieved to see that sight. There’s a long recovery for Patrick, and we wish him and his family all the best through that.”

Barry Lyttle had been charged with one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Patrick in the wake of the incident.
