A teenager has been arrested by police on suspicion of injuring a nine-year-old boy with a Taser-type device.
The 14-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to the child, who sustained an arm injury in the incident in north Belfast.
It is understood a small hand-held device was used. The PSNI said a “Taser” had been seized.
Footage apparently showing Wednesday’s incident in the Ballycastle Court area was posted on Facebook, but has since been removed.
PSNI Inspector Roy Watton said the 14-year-old has since been released pending further investigations.
“We received a report of an incident in which a nine-year-old boy sustained an injury to his arm and a police investigation commenced,” he said.
“This is a very serious incident and I would remind both children and parents that a Taser is not a toy and it can cause a lot of pain when used on someone.”
He appealed for any witnesses to come forward to police or, alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers.
