Woman sexually assaulted in Belfast city centre


Police are appealing for information after reports a black man sexually assaulted a woman in her 20s in Belfast city centre in the early hours of Thursday.

The assault took place at 3.30am as the young woman waited for a lift in the Rosemary Street area of the city.

Detective Sergeant Mike Davis said: “The assailant is described as being a black male who was wearing a black top, white jeans and a black baseball cap with white trim.

“On arrival of the woman’s friend he gave chase to the assailant who made off in the direction of Royal Avenue.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this assault or who saw the man being pursued to contact Detectives at the Rape Crime Unit on the non-emergency number 101.
