Daniel O’Donnell and his wife Majella are coming to the end of their B&B road trip in Northern Ireland.

In the final episode of their TV series – which has reportedly enjoyed more viewers than Eastenders – the couple will first stop in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh with Joan and Tom Foster, owners of Willowbank B&B.

The B&B affords unspoilt views of the lake from nearly every room in the house, and Joan said: “They were such a fantastic couple, easy going with a great sense of humour. It was a great experience, we enjoyed every bit of it.”

The couple’s next stop, Abbeydene House in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, sees them stay in Tim and Ethy Clifford’s Victorian mansion overlooking Belfast Lough.

But Abbeydene is no ordinary B&B, as it is a haven for musicians and music lovers with the entire house covered in musical paraphernalia, including a life-size statue of Elvis, two juke boxes, a gramophone, instruments and an endless collection of records, CDs and DVDs.

They have all of Daniel’s albums, most of them on vinyl.

“I had heard his music but didn’t know what it would be like to meet him but he and Majella are a delightful couple,” said Tim.

Daniel and Majella enjoy a house party with Tim’s friends from the Rock ‘N’ Roll club before settling into the hot tub in the back garden to toast a great road trip.

The couple get behind the wheel one last time to take the ferry back home to Donegal.

“We really enjoyed it, it was lovely,” said Majella O’Donnell.

“I felt that we really did reach the heart of Ireland. When you’re in cities all the time, the old Irish ways can get lost, but I feel that we really did reach the heart of Ireland, so in that respect, it was really good.”

Daniel added: “The fact that we got to interact with so many different people was, for me, the best part. It was lovely to see Ireland and travel Ireland.

“I have travelled Ireland umpteen times, but not with that eye that’s enjoying it when you’re just trying to get somewhere. Ireland has so much to offer – whether you’re by the coast or inland.”

Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip concludes on Monday at 8pm on UTV.
