He might have serenaded fans with ‘When Irish Eyes Are Smiling’ from stages around the world, but this week Daniel O’Donnell will make his Strictly Come Dancing debut to Ruby Murray’s hit on a different platform.

The Donegal singer, who has been cited as “elegant” and “charming” by veteran professional dancer Anton Du Beke after seeing his dancing, will put his best foot forward with professional partner Kristina Rihanoff.

The stars of Strictly Come Dancing have been holed up in rehearsal rooms for the last three weeks – and this weekend fans finally find out what they have been working on.

Speaking ahead of his performance this weekend to the Mirror, Daniel said he was “terrified”.

“I don’t know whether I’m coming or going,” he said. “I’m terrified. I don’t even know which night I’m on.

“I don’t know what song I’m dancing to and I don’t even know what I’ll be wearing.”

The bookies’ favourite, pop star Peter Andre, is set to dance the cha cha with partner Janette Manrana.

Meanwhile, newsreader Jeremy Vine will dance the cha cha to the song September by Earth, Wind and Fire alongside partner Karen Clifton.

Critics of the show suspect he will be among the first to exit the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Friday at 9pm and Saturday at 6.15pm on BBC One.
