Friday morning saw thousands of strikers man picket lines at workplaces across the Province.
From travel chaos (due to a blanket cancellation of all buses and trains) to reduced medical cover, by around midday the signs of the mass industrial action were being felt.
From around lunchtime, strikers are set to stage demonstrations – including in the centre of the Province’s two biggest cities of Belfast and Londonderry.
The strike has been brought on by worker anger over cutbacks in jobs and funding imposed by the Executive due to budget constraints.
Details of the rally locations – and the unions taking action – can be found at the bottom of this story.
Sinn fein (which was largely responsible for pushing through a range of budget cuts in mid-January) had come in for heavy criticism for its planned attendance at the rallies.
The full story, and all main parties’ various responses to the action, can be found at the bottom of this one.
