Two schools are reported to have been closed today January 30) due to adverse weather conditions.

The schools closed are Straid Primary School in Co Antrim and Loughash Primary School, Dunamanagh in Co Tyrone.

On Thursday around 130 schools closed around the Province after the weather played havoc with travel arrangements.

When a Department of education spokesman was asked what criteria a school should use before declaring their premises closed, he said: “Schools can apply for an exceptional closure when circumstances outside of their control result in the school having to close unexpectedly. Adverse weather conditions may cause some schools to close. Schools have the local knowledge and experience to assess a situation and they are therefore best placed to decide whether they stay open or close.”
