The elderly woman who died on Thursday after being struck by a car in Portglenone last week has been named as Elizabeth Moore who lived in the village.

Known as ‘Lizzie,’ the 83-year-old lived off the Garvaghy Road and was well-known in the area.

She was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Cavalier on Main Street around 10am on Tuesday, March 31.

Investigating officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward, and are particularly interested in speaking to the driver of a white box van with a tail lift that was adjacent to a jeweller’s shop at the time of the incident.

DUP councillor Billy Henry was in Portglenone on Friday morning and said the sad news was beginning to spread.

“People are very shocked to hear about Lizzie and my heart goes out to her family,” he added.

• Police are also appealing for information after an 86-year-old man was struck by a car in Armagh on Friday morning. The collision, involving a Vauxhall Astra, occurred in Gaol Square at 10.15am. Police have described the man as being in a serious condition in hospital.
