Councillors will be asked to approve a series of illuminations in each town as part of a bright new regeneration scheme at a meeting of the borough council on Monday evening.

Ballyclare Town Hall and surrounding trees, Main Street bridge underpass and pathway; the clock face and clock tower in Crumlin and the town’s leisure centre signs will shine brightly if the proposal is given the green light.

Trees and the sculpture at Lillian Bland Park in Glengormley will also be illuminated as part of the scheme.

In Antrim, the underpass between Castle Gardens and the town centre will be lit up as well as Barbican Gate and Old castle wall and the old courthouse.

In Randalstown, an upgrade to the existing lighting to the viaduct walkway is planned as well as the eye-catching addition of colour-changing lights illuminating the viaduct.

The overall cost of the scheme is expected to be in the region of £0.5m. The majority of funding will be provided by the Department for Communities. It is one of a number of local regeneration programmes which are earmarked for financial support. Read here
