Portadown woman Leah Cassells not only bears the same name as a Disney princess, but enjoyed a fairytale wedding day to her own Prince Charming a year ago next Saturday (June 13).
The 25-year-old married husband David, 26, at the majestic setting of Castle Leslie last summer, where she wore a stunning wedding gown that was beautiful enough to rival any dress donned by Kate Middleton.
And the couple are happily anticipating their first wedding anniversary, following a blissful 12 months of married life at their new home in Co Armagh, which they share with their adorable Cockapoo Buddy, who was actually a wedding present to Leah from her husband-to-be.
“We can’t seem to believe that we will be married a year in a couple of weeks, as it really feels like a couple of months ago that we tied the knot, but the first year of marriage has been great!” smiled Leah.
The pair got engaged following four years of dating and a proposal that was as romantic as they come.
Says Leah: “After having afternoon tea in the Merchant in Belfast, David proposed to me at the Castle Leslie Estate in Monaghan. He claims I knew nothing about it, but I saw him putting the ring box in his pocket!
“We got married in Bethany Free Presbyterian Church, Portadown, on Friday June 13, 2014, and then onto Castle Leslie for the reception. The highlight of our day was when Belfast Community Gospel Choir sang a selection of our favourite songs while we sat down to eat our meal.”
The newlyweds jetted off on their ‘North American Adventure’ to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York following their nuptials, a honeymoon which Leah says was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
And married life had a few more surprises in store for both of them - of the lovely kind.
“We thought we knew everything about each other until we started living together,” says Leah.
When pressed as to what advice she would give to other newly married couples, she replied: “Be patient and listen to each other, even though it may seem difficult to do at times.”
We’d like to wish Leah and David a very happy first wedding anniversary indeed, and many more to come!
