The man who died as a result of an apparent accident while at a clay pigeon shooting event has been named.
He was Terry Fitzsimons. Mr Fitzsimons, in his 60s, is believed to have been from the south Down area.
The incident unfolded at St Patrick’s Road, to the east of Downpatrick, at around 12.45pm on Sunday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Inspector Will Tate had said on Sunday that his death came “after a firearm was discharged”.
He had said: “We will be conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death, but initial enquiries would indicate this to be a tragic accident.”
