The Met Office has warned that last night’s disruptive snow and ice will be compounded by a further night of freezing conditions across Northern Ireland.
Roads Service’s Traffic Watch NI says the problem is especially difficult on higher ground with the North Antrim Hills and the Sperrins are of particular concern.
“Salting was carried out yesterday evening with repeated actions again this morning,” it said. “All main routes are passable with care. Road users through the morning journey to work and school-run should expect difficult driving conditions and take extreme care.”
In Greater Belfast area traffic remains busy on:
:: M1 citybound before Junction 8 to past Junction 6 (Blaris - Saintfield Road)
:: In Castlereagh, Carrowreagh Road, Dundonald is closed due to icy conditions.
The PSNI said that the Edenticullo Road in Hillsborough both closed due to icy road conditions. It also said Ballysillan Park, North Belfast is also closed in both directions from Ballysillan Road to Crumlin Road and motorists should seek other routes.
The Met Office snow and ice warning expires at noon today.
