Funeral for ‘beautiful, kind’ Newtownards school pupil set for Saturday

The funeral is to be held on Saturday for a six-year-old boy who was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday.

Joshua Kelly died following the incident on Scrabo Road in Newtownards at around 3.15pm.

He had been a pupil at St Finian’s Primary School in the Co Down town.

The funeral will begin at his grandmother’s home in Portaferry at 12.30pm before proceeding to St Patrick’s Church, Ballyphilip, for a requiem mass at 1pm.

He is to be buried in the adjoining graveyard.

The principal of St Finian’s, Barry Coulter, described him as “a beautiful, kind little boy who was very popular with his classmates and the staff of the school”.

He added that “his smile could light up a room.”
