Mr Drennan, 21, was on holiday when he was found dead in his hotel shortly after he arrived on the island.

Rev Nigel Kirkpatrick told mourners: “It is hard to imagine that just two weeks ago today, Alan was getting ready to set off on holiday with his friends; and here we are today in the same church where he was baptised, saying our farewells and wondering about the nature of it all.”

Rev Kirkpatrick relayed a story about Mr Drennan “driving along the Westlink when he spotted a man walking in the middle of the road, totally disorientated. “Instead of doing as the other drivers did and just steering around him, he stopped the car, got the man in and brought him to the hospital, getting him the help he needed for what turned out to be a diabetic episode”.

The cause of Mr Drennan’s death has not been released.
