Planning permission has been granted for a “state of the art” GAA club in Co Londonderry.

SDLP planning minister Mark H Durkan yesterday announced he was giving the go-ahead for the new facilities at Banagher club, Feeny.

The new two-storey sports and community building will consist of a multi-purpose hall, gym, changing rooms and storage, as well as plus car parking.

Describing the new design as “state of the art”, Mark H Durkan said in a statement: “This is a terrific boost for Feeny. Not only will it mean much improved sports facilities for the club, it will also serve as a good community facility.

“What’s more, it will mean further regeneration for this rural village. Decisions like this support my vision for a better environment and a stronger economy.”

There were no objections lodged to the proposals.

The reference number for the planning application is B/2014/0076/F was submitted to DOE Planning and Local Government Group on 14 April 2014.
