Organisers of projects commemorating the centenary of the First World War have been urged to apply for a share of the new £4million Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson said the money has been made available to assist communities looking to “explore, conserve and share local heritage,” of that turbulent period.
Mr Robinson said he attended a recent HLF presentation at the House of Commons, along with fellow DUP MP David Simpson, explaining how grants can be secured.
“It’s so important that we remember the impact of this war 100 years on,” he said.
“Thankfully we are now finally seeing a fuller assessment of the Battle of the Somme and many more people are discovering their own links to those from across our community who fought and died together in the trenches,” Mr Robinson added.
