Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital had to bring an extra 15 nurses into its accident and emergency department on Tuesday night to open more beds and cope with patient demand.

A hospital spokeswoman said they were “very busy” but added that other A&E departments were in the same situation.

At one point tonight there were 104 people being treated or waiting to be treated, which had been brought down to 70 by around 10.30pm, she added. No details were available on waiting times.
