Former Derry City FC and Glenavon striker Mark Farren, and his wife, Terri Louise, have thanked all those who have contributed to a fundraising campaign to help the footballer get the treatment he needs to battle a brain tumour.
Farren, 33, underwent a third operation at the beginning of April and as a result his speech and mobility have been affected. He told the Derry Journal the messages of support he has received have given him the strength to continue on with his fight against his illness.
“I am very, very emotional and happy at the same time,” said Mark. “I can’t believe it – it’s given me the motivation to keep on fighting.”
On Friday, the Farren family revealed that a recent operation to remove a brain tumour had not been totally successful.
Potentially life-saving treatment is available at clinics in Germany and Mexico but it will come at a significant cost. Anyone interested in donating can visit http://gogetfunding.com/project/mark-farrens-treatment-fund.
By Tuesday afternoon, donations had topped £27,000.
