A MOTHER and son have escaped a malicious house fire in south Belfast, police have confirmed.
The blaze started early on Monday after a flammable liquid was poured through the letterbox of the property at Walmer Street.
The property suffered smoke damage. Detectives are investigating a motive.
A police spokeswoman said: "A woman in her 30s and her son, 11, were in the house at the time but managed to get out. They were unharmed but shaken."
