Iconic DeLorean goes on the market for £25k

As fans of both DeLorean motors and the Back To The Future movies prepare to celebrate the most important date of the century, one enthusiast in Co Armagh is being forced to part company with his iconic sports car.

Ian Matthews from Moira bought his beloved DMC-12 more than 14 years ago but family and work commitments have limited his opportunities to clock up the miles.

Unlike the flying time-machine in the movie trilogy – which was programmed to jump forward to October 21, 2015 – Ian’s exotic beauty hasn’t left the garage in almost a decade and is currently being returned to a roadworthy condition.

He said his three-year-old son Alastair will be devastated at the sale, but Ian hopes to give him a longed-for spin before it gets sold on.

Ian’s wife Karen explained that the space being occupied by the car is needed for their ever-expanding ‘Almost Home’ animal rescue shelter.

“We put some pens in the garage to allow us to take in some extra cats but we couldn’t use one because the car was blocking it. I also want to build a retirement home for older dogs and we thought that if we sell the DeLorean we could put some of the money towards that.”

The car – priced at a cool £25,000 – is listed at www.gumtree.com/p/other-cars/delorean-for-sale
