A lack of “quality acts” available to play a Christmas concert in Belfast led to the cancellation of this year’s ‘Jingle Ball,’ according to the show’s organisers.

Fans of the annual Christmas Live multi-act showpiece at the SSE (formerly Odyssey) Arena have been left stunned at the decision taken by show promoters Cool FM.

In recent years the Jingle Ball has featured stars such as JLS, McFly and Shane Filan. Paloma Faith was the headline act in 2014.

A statement posted on the SSE website simply confirms the show will not be going ahead and advises customers to seek a refund - with no reason given for the cancellation.

A spokeswoman for Cool FM told the News Letter: “Due to scheduling difficulties to secure quality acts, unfortunately and regrettably we had no option but to cancel the multi-act concert at the SSE Arena.

“This decision was not taken lightly as we worked tirelessly to attract the very best of music talent to perform. We are extremely disappointed that the concert could not go ahead.”

Thousands of concert-goers were left devastated last month with the last minute cancellation of a One Direction show at the same venue.
