The man who died in a road collision near Saintfield, Co Down on Wednesday was Queen’s University student Chris Rice.
Mr Rice, who was 28, died when his car was in collision with a tractor on the Killyleagh Road near Darragh Cross.
The accident happened shortly after 11am.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The road was closed for most of the day while experts examined the scene.
Mr Rice was a member of the university’s rowing team .
He had been the public relations officer for its men’s section.
Mr Rice had also been undertaking a teacher training placement at his former primary school, St Mary’s Star of the Sea in Killyleagh.
The PSNI have appealed for anyone with any information to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
Mr Rice was the 56th person to die on Northern Ireland’s roads this year. In all of 2014, there were 79 fatalities.
