Theresa May’s infrastructure adviser has resigned, stating that “Brexit is a populist and nationalist spasm worthy of Donald Trump”.

Labour peer Lord Adonis – a high-profile campaigner against Brexit – claimed Mrs May had sided with Ukip and the “Tory hard right”.

He said he was “duty bound” to oppose the Government’s EU (Withdrawal) Bill when in the House of Lords.
