Man bailed in probe into Belfast armed robberies

A man arrested over a string of four armed robberies in two days in south Belfast has been bailed by police.

Nobody was hurt in the commercial raids but the shop staff were left “badly shaken”, the PSNI said.

The first robbery took place at around 8.30am on Thursday in the Ormeau Road area of the city, followed by two more in Botanic Avenue at 10am and 8.30pm.

A fourth business, Vivo newsagents on Ormeau Road, was targeted by a man wielding a knife at 4pm on Friday, officers said.

A 23-year-old man has been released on bail pending further inquiries and officers have appealed for witnesses.
