Men wearing balaclavas beat man with baseball bats

A man in his 30s has been treated in hospital after being beaten by a gang using baseball bats in Co Antrim last night.

The incident happened on Friday night in Carrickfergus.

Shortly before 7pm it was reported that a 32-year-old man was walking on Salia Avenue when he heard footsteps behind him. He was put into a car and driven a short distance to Cypress Place where he was taken from the car and assaulted by four unknown males.

The man was struck a number of times with baseball bats and was taken to hospital for treatment for cuts and bruises. The four males were all dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclavas.

Detective Sergeant Crothers is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that could assist with the investigation to contact Detectives in Larne on the non-emergency number 101.
