The anniversary of the Miami Showband massacre is to be officially commemorated in Co Wicklow this year.

On July 31, 1975, three members of the group – Fran O’Toole, 28, from Co Wicklow. Tony Geraghty, 24, from Dublin and Brian McEvoy, 32, from Co Tyrone were shot dead by the UVF after being flagged down at a bogus checkpoint outside Newry by men dressed in British army uniforms.

Forty years on, Bray Council has reportedly promised to fund a tribute to them, which is being supported by Mr O’Toole’s surviving family members and friends.
