Coastguard and RNLI teams from Northern Ireland were involved in the search for an aircraft that issued a distress call off the Isle of Man coast around 10am on Sunday.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said an “extensive search” had been launched after RAF Kinloss in Scotland reported that the aircraft had issued an emergency code.

A Coastguard spokeswoman said there had been “nothing found,” and added: “No aircraft has been reported missing and the incident will now be handed over to Air Traffic Control.”
