When asked what his first priority would be if he was to become First Minister in May, Mike Nesbitt said: “It would be to organise some sort of away-day for the other leaders of the Executive parties and find a way of building some mechanisms and some form of trust that would allow us...to find a way of working together.
“And to my mind, the best way to do that is to get away with no officials, no advisers — you’ve got to basically strip yourself politically naked and say, ‘do we trust each other sufficiently to be able to agree and work a programme for government for the good of all the people? Do we sense that there is a greater good and can we stick to that?’”
When asked if he believes that he will ever be First Minister, he said: “I don’t know.
“What I aspire is to put the Ulster Unionists in the position as quickly as possible where they appoint a First Minister.”
