The former chairwoman of the trouble-wracked NI21 party has refused to speak to the News Letter.

The politician appeared at City Hall briefly during this afternoon’s count, and although she spoke to other media, she declined to take questions from the paper.

The News Letter has revealed key details of the party’s internal difficulties as it has imploded over the last 48 hours.

When Ms McKenzie and party colleagues appeared at the count, she gave an interview to UTV.

But when News Letter reporter Adam Kula introduced himself and asked if she would be willing to answer questions, the answer was: “no – full stop”.

Asked why, she said: “I don’t want to.”

Pressed on the votes she had recieved as a Euro and council candidate and what would happen next, a large man next to her said that this had been discussed with other media, but that as far as the News Letter was concerned it was “interview over”.

As the reporter turned to leave though, Ms McKenzie smiled and said: “Good luck. It’s nothing personal.”
