Belfast City Council was right to ban anti-Israel motion

I'm pleased that Belfast City Council banned what amounted to an anti-Israel motion from being discussed at it's monthly meeting last week.

Such motions are divisive and offensive and have nothing to do with the work or role of local councils in Northern Ireland.

This motion, like the one debated in Londonderry recently, which was supported by SF, SDLP and independent councillors, was anti-Israel.

Motions such as these have no place in local council chambers!

Indeed, such debates, like anti-Israel rallies, boycotts and statements, feed anti-semitism and raise concerns and fears of Belfast’s small, but growing Jewish community.
