THE Valley Hotel in Fivemiletown was packed last weekend for the annual musical extravaganza organised by Fermanagh’s Brookeborough Flute.

The line-up provided an excellent showcase of marching music from beginning to end, with the diversity in styles on show undoubtedly a major contribution. Aughintober Pipe brought their always exemplary performance to the floor, the Tyrone band still continuing to improve and raise their standards, a journey that has already taken them from Grade 4B to Grade 2 in a period of just 10 years.

Omagh Protestant Boys Royal Marines Drum Salute brought an excellent crowd reaction, whilst Dungannon Silver thoroughly entertained with a set that included Abba classics alongside some Elvis. The host band both started and finished proceedings, which included some real crowd pleasers such as Lilliburlero and The Great Escape. Brookeborough also used the opportunity to make a donation from their Festival to the UDR Benevolent Fund. This year already the band has picked up the Musicians Merit Group Award at the Orange Community Awards, and with several other high profile events to come in 2013, the year ahead is looking very positive for Brookeborough Flute.
