Further answers sought on Craft Show cancellation


I would very much like to thank the representative of the Titanic Exhibition Centre for their response to my earlier letter (October 28) re the cancellation of the Creative Crafts Show which was to be held there earlier this month.

I fully appreciate that they, as an organisation, probably did all that they could to let the public know that the three-day event had been cancelled.

However, I’m sure that there were many crafters like myself who would not have thought to go onto the Titanic web-site (or perhaps tried, as I did, and found it very busy, so were asked to try again later).

Our first ‘port of call’ was the ‘Creative Crafts’ own website, where we were supposed to get full details of dates, times etc and be able to book tickets etc.

In several crafting magazines, cheaper tickets were on offer as an incentive for those who booked early on-line.

What many of us are still left asking for therefore is a direct response from the promoter, Trident Exhibitions, who were supposed to organise this event, as to why it failed to take place.

Could they not attract enough stand-holders to fill the space in Belfast? Were ticket sales so low that it was not viable? I know that this company hold these shows under the same trade brand in other cities across the UK, so why did the event in Belfast have to be ‘pulled’ at the last minute?

Are they planning to re-schedule the event for the future and, if so, can we have confidence that, this time, the ‘crafting family’ from across the whole of Ireland probably (for many folk from the South would probably have made the effort to travel to Belfast for such a special event) will not be disappointed again.

So thank you ‘Titanic Centre’ for putting forward what you know of the facts, but there are still questions to be answered and it is time for the promoter, Trident Exhibitions, to set up to the plate, and put the record right.
