Giving thanks for Ardoyne deal

Although I am currently in New Zealand, representing the Methodist Church in Ireland at the annual conference of the Methodist Church, I have been following the situation at Ardoyne.

I am delighted to have heard of the peaceful resolution of this situation.

It is with thankfulness to Almighty God and to those who, regardless of set-backs, have been able to bring about the resolution of a situation which has for too long kept tensions heightened between these two communities.

With this return parade it is my prayer that the dialogue which brought it about will continue.

With others I appreciate that those who had opposing views held their protest, as was their right, in a peaceful manner. I pay tribute to the dignified manner in which ‘Camp Twadell’ was dismantled in keeping with the Orange Order’s promise in the agreement.

I also pay tribute to the professionalism of the PSNI in their handling of the parade.

The Rev. Bill Mullally,

President of Methodist Church in Ireland, New Zealand
