Bobby Storey funeral was a flagrant and unrepentant breach of social distance guidance

Two recent events have only fuelled cynicism with the body politic.

The first was some parties voting to decide their own expenses. Doubtless in the future we shall see the introduction of a bill bestowing the same privilege to all employees in Northern Ireland!

However this was eclipsed by the flagrant and unrepentant breach of regulations at last Tuesday’s funeral of Bobby Storey. To deny this is either to have your feet firmly planted in mid-air or more probably a belief that, a la Dominic Cummings, unlike everyone else you are somehow inexplicably exempt.

Sinn Fein were extremely vocal railing against a hierarchy of victims but fail to see the hypocrisy of a hierarchy in funerals.

This was compounded by the deputy first minister’s apology /non apology in which she refused to choose the ethical course and apologise but insisted that she did nothing wrong and complied with regulations.

She expressed sorrow if grieving families were hurt as if this hurt was self inflicted and not by Sinn Fein’s selfish irresponsible actions.

Unfortunately too many politicians lack a conscience and integrity.

There isn’t anything that is a resigning matter in some people’s eyes as we have already witnessed with Cummings and Conor Murphy on several occasions.

Their strategy is to brazen it out and wait for the transgression to blow over and the public to tire of it. What depths they have plummeted to means they can’t go any lower.
