Dominic Cummings should not be sacked but he clearly broke the rules so should be fined and then say sorry

I suppose we could accept Dominic Cummings’ excuse for relocating to Durham, with a huge amount of generosity, because it frankly sounds nothing like the regulations the rest of us were expected to obey.

That said, there is still the matter of the 60 mile round trip taken by Dominic “to test his eyesight and ability to drive”.

He did this while still feeling ill and stopped to sit by a river. Stopped again at some woodland.

He took his wife and child with him. This beggars belief.

How are we expected to swallow that one?

Essential travel? Stay at home?

It is clear to me that this journey broke the rules. A man, who is part of the government that had the police out fining members of the public for lesser offences, obviously felt he was above obeying the regulations he himself had a part in making!

Do I think he should lose his job over this?

Personally no. But like anyone else caught doing the same, he should be warned and likely fined.

I do find it very disappointing that he could not admit what he did was breaking the rules.

An apology would not have been amiss.

Even harder to stomach was the sight of the ‘stay at home’ prime minister defending his right hand man and refusing to admit the infringement.

The public are not stupid. What Dominic did was exactly what we were told not to do.
